日本でも図版の美しさと学術的な深みで話題を呼んだ『タロットと占術カードの世界』の著者としても知られるバルビエ氏が、昨年に続いて今年も東京タロット美術館に登場します。
フランスは占術カードの歴史において、特に重要な位置を占めています。
マルセイユ版タロットの体系化をはじめ、エテイヤ版タロット、ルノルマンカード、オラクルベリーヌなど、独自の象徴体系をもつカードが次々と生まれ、その美学と思想は、世界のカード文化を形づくる大きな要素となってきました。
今回の講演では、これらのカード体系がどのように形成され、受け継がれてきたのかを、美術史・象徴文化・カード占術を横断してきたレティシア・バルビエ氏の視点から読み解きます。
洗練されたフランスのカルトマンシー（占術カード）文化が持つ、歴史・美学・精神性の豊かさを、多様な図像資料とともに深く味わうことのできる特別な講演です。

The French Cartomantic Imagination: History, Aesthetics, and Legacy from the Tarot de Marseille to the Belline Oracle.
France occupies a central place in the history of cartomancy and divinatory tarot, distinguished not only by the remarkable number of scholars and early treatises produced in the eighteenth century, but also by the originality and lasting influence of the systems that emerged there. From the codification of the Tarot de Marseille to the Grand Lenormand or Etteilla’s cartomantic method—an adaptation of tarot that introduced a distinctive symbolic and visual language—and extending to twentieth-century creations such as Belline and other influential systems, French contributions have profoundly shaped both the practice and the aesthetics of the cards worldwide.
In this lecture, Laetitia will trace the historical and artistic development of French cartomancy and tarot, situating it within its intellectual, cultural, and artistic contexts, and will consider how this tradition, with its enduring aesthetic refinement, continues to animate contemporary approaches to the cards.

PROFILE
- Laetitia Barbier レティシア・バルビエ
フランス出身の在野研究者、タロットリーダー兼講師。
2009年にパリ・ソルボンヌ大学で美術史の学士号を取得。2012年から2024年までニューヨークのMorbid Anatomyにてプログラムディレクター、ヘッドライブラリアン、キュレーターを歴任。
2021年には著書『Tarot and Divination Cards: A Visual Archive「タロットと占術カードの世界:起源から21世紀まで」』を発表。
また、象徴主義アーティスト、Lori Fieldによる「Tiger Tarot」のガイドブックを執筆。
近年ではフランスの名門カードメーカー、Grimaud社と共同で、1930年代のマルセイユ版タロットやBelline Oracleの復刻にも携わる。
講演やカードリーディングの経験は多岐にわたり、ニューヨーク公立図書館、ロンドンのCollege of Psychic Studies、Fotografiska NYなど、数々の文化施設で活動。
現在はニューヨーク、ブルックリン在住。
French-born Laetitia Barbier is an independent scholar, as well as a professional tarot reader and teacher. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Art History from La Sorbonne University Paris in 2009. Laetitia has worked with Morbid Anatomy from 2012 to 2024 as a programming director, head librarian, and occasional curator. Her book Tarot and Divination Cards: A Visual Archive was published in 2021 with a foreword by Rachel Pollack. She is the author of the Tiger Tarot Guide Book, a unique Tarot deck by symbolist artist Lori Field. As a writer and scholar, she has the privilege of collaborating with the iconic French maître-cartier Grimaud, notably on the exquisite re-release of their 1930s Tarot de Marseille and Belline Oracle.
Laetitia has lectured, taught and read cards for various cultural institutions, such as Greenwood Cemetery, Artyard, Fotografiska NY, the College of Psychic Studies in London or the New York Public Library. She lives in Brooklyn, New York.
